Thanks Gervais, your suggestion did indeed work, although because my satellite server is broken I just did yum localinstalls on the RPMs you mentioned that were provided in the tarball. Too bad I have to miss out on the fancy installer help, but I guess I'll end up understanding it that much better.

Hi Mike,

You can install pgpool right from the epel RPM repo.

yum install epel-release
yum install postgresql-pgpool-II postgresql-pgpool-II-extensions

It doesn’t insist that I install postgresql-server when I install from epel.

Cheers,
Gervais

Hi,

I’m trying to install pgpool-II on a stand-alone rehl 6 server using installer2-pg93-3-4.0, and receive this error message:

check for installation
Please install PostgreSQL (postgresql93-server).

I don’t want postgresql to be on the same server as pgpool, but I tried laying the software down anyway from a tar file (not using RPMs) and still got the error. A comment on the pgpool.net<http://pgpool.net/> download page says the following:

“From 2014/10/06, old installers ("installer-pg93*") are deprecated and users should use new installers ("installer2-pg93*"). The new installers allow you to install pgpool-II and PostgreSQL onto separate servers: which was impossible with old installers.”

So it sounds like I should be able to do this. Does anyone know how to tell the installer not to bother checking for postgresql?
