Summary0000821: show pool_nodes showing node as a standby of pg_role and role
DescriptionAll Pgpool settings are properly configured, but when I check show_pool, it displays pg_role and role as standby, not showing primary and standby; both are listed as standby.

Configuration - 2 nodes cluster (primary and 1 standby systems) with pgpool-II 4.4.3 and PostgreSQL 16.0. I have a setup with 1 Pgpool, 1 primary PostgreSQL, and 1 standby PostgreSQL. However, I am encountering the following issue:

Issue 1: Pgpool is not able to detect the primary and indicates that all nodes are standby."

Steps To ReproduceHere below Pgpool is not able to detect primary and says all are standby:

postgres=# show pool_nodes;
-[ RECORD 1 ]----------+--------------------

hostname | localhost
port | 5441
status | up

Here's the output for pg_is_in_recovery() on all the nodes where it correctly says which is primary'f' and which is standby't':

If streaming replication is configured correctly, pg_role should display the correct role.
Could share the full pgpool logs and pgpool.conf?

You backend setting is:

----------------------------------------------------
backend_hostname0 = 'localhost'
backend_port0 = 5442
backend_hostname1 = 'localhost'
backend_port1 = 5441
----------------------------------------------------

But "show pool_nodes" shows node0 is "5441" and node1 is "5442".
postgres=# show pool_nodes;
-[ RECORD 1 ]----------+--------------------
node_id | 0
hostname | localhost
port | 5441
-[ RECORD 2 ]----------+--------------------
node_id | 1
hostname | localhost
port | 5442

Please try to restart pgpool .
Could you show the following command result?

psql -h localhost -p 9999 -U postgres -c "show pool_nodes"
psql -h localhost -p 5441 -U postgres -c "SELECT pg_is_in_recovery()"
psql -h localhost -p 5442 -U postgres -c "SELECT pg_is_in_recovery()"
psql -h localhost -p 5441 -U postgres -c "SELECT * from pg_stat_replication"
