I am not familiar with repmgr. Anyway...

Besides pgool restarting, pgpool will try to find primary node and
standby node in the following events.

- failover by certain errors
- manually node detach (pcp_detach_node)
- manually node attach (pcp_attach_node)

So currently there's no way to force pgpool to refresh status without
those events.
