I've been running tests against master for the past few days and the
results are looking good. I've not seen any failures caused by the
detach_false_primary.

Unfortunately, I didn't have the time yet to try your latest commit on
master with the pg_isready fix. I'll take a look at the 4.2 patch
later this week.
