Hello All,
Currently I have two sites the first at the US ( Site B ) and the second at Europe ( Site A ), and their latency is quite high.
I have two different pgpool instances running on each site, only site A has the master node, and we are relying on the WAL replication to update the standby instances on both sites A & B.

You'll notice that Site B is considering the other PgPool instance at Site A as the primary node, hence all write queries would go there. I've assumed that since only the write queries will be going from Site B to Site A, then the latency and the delay will only be affected on the WRITE operations yet the READ operations are not supposed to get impacted and since this is a read heavy system such impact is acceptable.

The problem is that read only queries to PgPool Site B is still extremely slow and facing a lot of delays, by simply removing node 3 ( the other pgpool master ) hence connecting to a read only cluster, the queries are then much faster.
I'm speaking about 5 minutes query when Node 3 is connected vs 5 seconds once I remove Node 3 even in that in both cases only the standby nodes are the ones executing the queries.

I've enabled log_per_node_statement and All what I can see going to Node 3 something like this:

2021-08-25 15:11:46: pid 283: LOG: DB node id: 3 backend pid: 31698 statement: Parse: SET extra_float_digits = 3
2021-08-25 15:11:46: pid 283: LOG: DB node id: 3 backend pid: 31698 statement: Bind: SET extra_float_digits = 3
2021-08-25 15:11:46: pid 283: LOG: DB node id: 3 backend pid: 31698 statement: Execute: SET extra_float_digits = 3
2021-08-25 15:11:46: pid 283: LOG: DB node id: 3 backend pid: 31698 statement: Parse: SET application_name = 'PostgreSQL JDBC Driver'
2021-08-25 15:11:46: pid 283: LOG: DB node id: 3 backend pid: 31698 statement: Bind: SET application_name = 'PostgreSQL JDBC Driver'
2021-08-25 15:11:46: pid 283: LOG: DB node id: 3 backend pid: 31698 statement: Execute: SET application_name = 'PostgreSQL JDBC Driver'

But nothing else, none of the SELECT queries are being executed on Node 3, they are all going to the other Nodes, yet it is still much slower just having Node 3 in the list. Just a small hint, all our queries are being executed in a READ ONLY Transactions.
