The watchdog code I saw somewhere on the web is current feature, correct?

If I have x number of pgpool front ends, one of which is active, the active
one fails, another is voted in, I then kill old machine and start a new
one, how does it join as a secondary? How does application using pgpool2
server and port get redirex? Is there a good blog or example on a 2-5 front
end HA setup?
