Im having this issue as well.
postgres 9.0 with streaming replication setup.
pgpool pgpool2_3.0.4-1_i386.deb on ubuntu 10.04
when I just have pgpool pushing to one backend it works.
when I turn on load balanceing, master/slave and set master_slave_sub_mode to
'stream' .
if I have these turned off it works fine. I've got ssl disabled in pgpool and
the two dbs and authentication set to trust.
hope this helps
