[Pgpool-general] is it expected pgpool slows down

Hi,
I(we) am working on running our system on cluster.
Pgpool is the part of our equation. I intented to use pgpool for 
load balancing (NOT REPLICATION). Tomcat points to pgpool, and I run some
testing. It appears that if run cluster with pgpool it slows down like
30sec(takes 35-38sec)
to login, if I run it without pgpool it take 6-10sec.

My question is this expected? OR is my pgpool.conf is not right?
(I posted my pgpool.conf also)

because I set to
# Replication mode
replication_mode = false (because DB does it for us)

# Load balancing mode, i.e., all SELECTs except in a transaction block
# are load balanced.  This is ignored if replication_mode is false.
load_balance_mode = false

(It is set to false, because it says it is ignored if replication_mode is set to
false)

Is my pgpool.conf set correclty for my needs. Is it doing load balancing?
Even it will be really helpful if someone tell me how to test the load balancing.
