If you show the log when client connects to pgpool it will be cleaner,
but just seeing:

is enough since these debugging messages only appear with pre 7.4.

Another possibility is you are using pre 7.4 clients. If you are using
psql, type psql --help to see its version. What kind of clients are
you using?
