Yes, I have an idea. In the code path where you saw looping, the case
when one of standbys sends spontaneously packet to pgpool is not
considered. This could happen when, for example, reloading
postgresql.conf. I suspect you hit the case. I've been thinking about
how to deal with the case.  Within a few days, I hope to create a
patch for this.
